We've been there about 4 times now - lunch and dinner, each time was good - just good It's a sports bar with a large covered and uncovered out side area. It draws a big crowd for Saturday college football games, so if you're looking for a place just to relax on Saturday afternoons and evenings during football season this isn't it. But it's great if you're into watching some sports. The menu is a step above sports bar food - nice selections of sandwiches, burgers and pastas, etc. Pricing is pretty good too. Normally about 4 or 5 beers on tap, although they were out of some the night we were there. The only drawback is that the men's bathroom is one person at a time. Seriously? Forty guys drinking beer all afternoon and a single toilet to handle it?? YEAH - they added a bathroom in June 13! Three pieces of porcelain now for men and 2 for women!! Oh the bad part - played beer roulette for most of the night. Ordered a Holy City Porter (one of my favorites). Got something very hoppy and a lighter color - definitely not the HCP. Told the server, she assured me it was a HCP several times. It was good and I like IPAs so I kept it even thought she offered to get me something else (Other than what she thought was a HCP). Ordered another HCP and got the same hoppy brew which was still v good. Anyway, thought it was funny in a way and switched to ordering an IPA after that with the strange notion I may actually get a HCP - no luck.

If you enjoy roach salad, this is the place for you! That's right folks, at about noon on Friday 06/19 I was served a salad with a side of roach. I made the mistake of ordering a non-menu item: Salad with a burger on top. I usually order this everywhere I go and usually the waiter and chef are happy to oblige. The DIG had this as a special a few weeks back so I figured ordering it on this day would not be a problem. Boy was I wrong, I guess my request for a burger on a salad was ludicrous. The waiter first told me that they couldn't do it since that was a special a few weeks back. I responded with; well could you just put a burger on the salad? I will pay whatever I need to for it. He went and spoke to the guy in the kitchen (he doesn't deserve the title Chef) and apparently "convinced" him to make it for me. When the burger salad came out, the burger was extra well done (no problem) and there was a dead roach sitting on the edge of the plate in clear view. It was a small roach, but a roach all the same. I looked at it and then brushed it off to the side without disturbing my comrades. I guess I was trying to be considerate and not ruin their meals. So, I managed to stomach some of the salad (I was hoping to send the message "your roach salad doesn't phase me punk!") although I was extremely disgusted and livid. Once my companions finished their meals, I warned them that I was about to blow. When the waiter came back to the table I calmly told him to tell the guy who prepared my meal, "thanks for the side of roach, it was a nice touch. I will pay for the salad since I ate some" he reacted as if he knew the roach was there and said he would get the manager. He then returned with the checks and said mine was covered. I said thanks and we left without causing a scene or talking to the manager. So, that is why I am writing this review. It is unfortunate since I, along with many colleagues frequented this place and enjoyed it. After this, we will never return.

Nothing great, nothing awful about Daniel Island Grille. Good place to grab some drinks and watch a game. I would classify the food as above average bar food. Their french dip and cougar chips are the best items I've tried. Everything I have ordered has been decent, again, nothing that will blow you're socks off. The service can be hit or miss depending on how busy it is. They do have live music on the porch, which being in a very small space, can get extremely loud. Perhaps that's just another sign I'm getting old. Overall, just a nice sports bar.

Cold beer, whiskey drinks, good food and live music. Great place in a great place. Enjoy inside or outside drinking and good company.

I love Daniel Island Grill. It's very convenient if you live on DI. I love their burgers and find their pricing on everything (drinks included) to be very fair. The service is good - especially in a bar / pub environment. My only compliant is that the restaurant has some very noticeable wear / tear. I hope the owners can fix the place up so these areas do not get any worse. Overall, a regular spot for me!

As a bar, this place is as good as any if you are prepared to deal with crying & screaming children during the day on weekends and the skeevy Daniel Island regulars at any other time...think NYC homeless person that got dressed up to play golf and is wearing an exposed gold chain. They generally pour their bourbon and whiskey heavy which is always A-OK in my book. The location is good and they have an outdoor bar and patio for smokers. I can't speak for the food, as I've always been on a strict liquid diet when visiting this establishment. Not one of my favorites, but it's a good in-between meeting spot for me and some friends. I'll be back.

Great sports bar to just chill and relax in. Haven't had any food but if it's anything like the one in N Charleston Park Circle I'm sure the food is amazing. The staff is friendly. We like to go here once a month after a meeting just to talk and stay out off the roads. I would much rather stay here for happy hour vs getting into rush hour traffic any day. When everyone else has to go home I like to go outside and socialize with the bartender and servers. They really know how to listen and keep the conversation going even including others at the bar who came in by themselves. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.

This is a good bar to hang and shoot the breeze. Their outdoor bar is a great hang out area. Plenty of tv's and decent sized bar. They have the beer machine that fills your cup from the bottom up. There is a magnet on the bottom of your cup which is placed on the beer dispenser that separates that magnet from the cup and pushes beer in. This means zero head. Pretty cool to get perfect pours every time. The food is very good and comforting bar food. If I lived in DI, I would definitely make this a regular place to hang.

Enjoy having date nights here with the hubby. College football, and drinks. Bartenders are great, food is excellent.

Great place for hanging out with friends or by yourself. I started coming here after I found other bars to be too crowded. The food is Great! the bar service is excellent, Josh is my favorite bartender and McKenna the hostess is my fav......Karaoke on Friday nights is a must. All in all a great spot for locals.

I really wanted to like this place, I really did. I gave it a shot after multiple suggestions by the hotel staff. They get points for the service and beer selections but the food is really sub par. I ordered the fried pickles buffalo style which would have been good if they weren't swimming in sauce. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap at the suggestion of the waitress only to be disappointed as well. It was drowned in sauce. Note to the cooks, you don't have to drown everything in sauce. It made everything pretty much inedible. The pickles were buffalo sauce soup and pickles and the wrap was maybe 3 chicken strips and buffalo sauce soup. Hint, less is more. The only edible thing were the fries and they were scarce on the plate.

I had high hopes for DIG. Menu looked great, first time eating on Daniel Island since I moved to SC, and it was really close to the Family Circle Cup stadium where I was going to a concert. The hostess staff was friendly and sat us quickly; however, the service beyond that was really disappointing. We ordered an appetizer, which the server forgot to even put in so we never got it. Our food came out, burgers were just okay (Five Guys has them beat by a long shot, and that's fast food if that tells you anything), the fries were a mixture of over cooked on some and undercooked on others and incredibly greasy. The server did apologize and was upfront that he forgot to pit in our appetizer order, asked if we still wanted it, to which I replied "no", but then he just left the table without asking if we needed more drinks or anything else while he was there. We got our check, and while we were waiting for the server to return with my card, the guy busing the table next to ours bumped into my chair, which slid me out from under the table and just kept on walking. Not so much as an "excuse me". I definitely won't be returning to DIG for future dining ventures on Daniel Island.

Chili was ok. Fish tacos had less than 4oz total, made the mistake of sending it back and asking to check if the order was correct. What came back was the worst fish taco ever. Also kids Sunday = melted soft serve soup.

YUM! The hubby and I got two burgers, one with sweet potato fries and one with their regular fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. The blue cheese crumbles on his burger, the sauteed mushrooms and onions on my burger, both cooked to perfection, the fries were, too. We had our toddler with us and although they had child seats, menus, coloring books, and crayons, they had no changing station in either bathroom. Service was great. TV's everywhere and a nice looking bar and outdoor patio with makeshift walls for the winter time.

I should have taken a cue from the DIG waitress having her lunch break. When asked how her meal was by another wait staff she made an ugly face and said "ew!" About one hour later began suffering with stomach cramps as it was the only meal I had all day I can only blame it on Daniel Island grill. Today I'm still feeling the effects of my lunch. Stay away!!!!

DIG use to be awesome for some cold brews, and fat greasy delish food...now its overcooked chicken (that seemed borderline bad) --potato skins were dry, taco salad had something lacking--oh mexican dressing..they don't have that there... I then ordered chips and queso..craving and it was closer then Taco Mamacitas...UMMM the queso is actually nacho cheese! IEW if i liked or wanted nacho cheese I would've ordered Nachos. Service sucks (like its a chore to do your job). I'm sad cause I use to love it here 2 years ago..bottomless mimosas on Sundays with brunch..now I don't even bother..even my kids throw their food away. Oh and if you want to enjoy outside with a drink and no crappy food..hope you like cigarette and cigar smoke...the ENTIRE outside allows smoking

This is the second time I've been here. This time was actually better than the last. The burger I had today was good- pimiento cheese and a fried green tomato. The fries were soggy though. Not my favorite. My boyfriend liked his shrimp tacos but I was not overly impressed. It's a fine place if you want to watch a game or have a drink but I would choose another place for food next time!

Been going to the Dig since it opened. I have always loved their food. Above just bar food. One of the top ten burgers in the area. I stop going as much for a while because of some of the people working. No scruples, but would stop in every so often and those people have disappeared . Stopped in the other night and enjoyed my trip . Nice bar tenders . The Dig has become a staple to daniel island and their sister bar Dig at the park is a big hit ! ( too the owners " good changes to your employee drinking policies ")

Working on Daniel Island I can tell you that the lunch and happy hour selections on the island are very limited; DIG certainly fills this void with delicious sports bar food for lunch and stiff drinks at happy hour. I've tried a few items for lunch at DIG and my favorite is the cheese steak sandwich; by far one of the best and biggest cheese steaks I've had in Charleston. A couple of other good items I've had here include hummus (very good and big), club sandwich, turkey avocado wrap, Hammering Hank Burger (perfect hangover cure with the sunny side up egg on top), and the handcut fries here are the best. But along with the good food is some dishes I would not recommend such as quesadilla, cheese sticks, and potato skins; none of which were that great. But everything else I've tried here has been great. Service here is usually really great. A little slow at times, but that's the way it is on the island; you just have to learn to wait sometimes. The staff has been nothing but friendly here; and I usually have some pretty good conversations with the bartenders. I love coming to DIG and would have given them 5 stars, but after a visit last night for happy hour I was little disappointed. My wife ordered a couple of Grey Goose and cranberry drinks which I knew would be a little expensive; then we got the bill and noticed that not only is it $8 for a Grey Goose drink, but also they charge $.50 for the cranberry juice in there. Who the hell charges for mixer? DIG is my first experience of anyone charging for mixer, not even airport bars do that. Well, even though this disappointed me a little I won't let it stop me from coming here for lunch and happy hour, but the wife is going to have start drinking beer.

First time visit Friday night for drinks on the outside deck. Great bartender and crowd. Awesome beers on draft. Will definitely be returning.

The food is typical bar food. Their gyros are pretty good. The one thing I don't like is the service. I went there a while ago with friends and we ordered one beer and got cut off. That was literally our first beer. Haven't been back since.

My husband and I come here about once a week. Only 3 stars because I'm a huge Bloody Mary critic and they taste different every time I go. The food is alright but nothing to write home about. We love the bartender named Kaylie (spelling?). She makes great Bloody Mary's and takes good care of her customers. Here are the menu items we've tried: Philly Cheesesteak: 6/10 Caesar Salad with Shrimp: 7/10 Mahi Tacos: 7/10 Mushroom Swiss Burger: 7/10 Potato Skins: 8/10 Guacamole: 6/10 Fried Pickles: 8/10 Corked Bats: 5/10 Again, it's a sports bar so I don't expect the food to be perfect, though it is overpriced. If they knocked everything down by a $1.50 or $2 then it would be a fair deal. I like the atmosphere. Everyone minds their own business and watches their sports games on one of the many flat screens that line the walls as they talk amongst themselves. Wait staff is friendly. The manager is really cool and a nice guy, so chat with him if you get a chance.

Great bartenders! If your regular they remember what you drink. They always remember your name. Food is average. Good local craft beer and good music on Friday Saturday nights

Lunch here is okay. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. There was way too much buffalo sauce which created a mess... For $1.99 extra I order She Crab Soup as a side. The soup had nice chucks of crab meat but was a little sweet for my taste. I also tried the Phlly Cheesesteak. All the food was okay...nothing to write home about but decent bar food. The prices were as to be expected $8.99-$10.99 for sandwhiches. Overall, it got the job done...

The food definitely fits the bill for bar food. Nothing to complain about in that department as long as you're not looking for anything more than bar food. I've had burgers, wings, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fries, nachos. It's all good stuff. Where DIG really shines is the outdoor bar and patio. This place draws a crowd for any sporting event or concert/event taking place on DI. No matter what, DIG is always the most packed. It's almost strange how places right down the street will be practically empty at the same time... weird. You can see a TV from any seat in the house and it's a great place to grab a bucket of beer and a bit to eat while watching a game or getting ready to head over to Family Circle or Blackbaud Stadium.

I loved my visit to Daniel Island Grille. I sat at the bar on a busy NFL Sunday and there was a lot of energy. It's awesome that they have TVs outside. Most sports bars have you cooped up inside, but here I was able to get the best of both worlds. The nachos were good and really good portion. The beers were cheap and kept flowing. I'll definitely be back here.

WHOA, DIG. Whoa. I have to apologize to you for not visiting you sooner - very serious bad on my part. Very relaxed atmosphere, people enjoying happy hour and/or dinner. Classic rock on the speakers, sports all around. I got the cheesesteak and for...$8.99? It was HUGE and probably one of the best cheesesteaks I have ever had. JR C. got the lamb gyro and again, freaking excellent. Fries were great, service was great, prices were great. Definitely cannot wait to go back. Sorry 'bout that, DIG, I'll be around more.

Good place for a night out with the buds or a casual lunch. Friendly service and standard fare with a few fun twists like branded burgers. The wait is a little long but you'll be entertained by the multiple televisions.

Decent bar. Drinks were kind of expensive and the food basic and unimaginative. Our server was busy but on top of things and organized. Not impressed with one of the male servers tonight who was pretty much an ass when I needed his assistance. Ok for meeting a group for drinks but this would not be my go to food option.

My bestie and I snuck out for an adult night while the hubbs stayed at home with the baby. The island had been rpetty much shut down from the ice so we were all a little stir crazy. We waited about 15 min for a table. sat down and ordered a tasty adult beverage.... or so we thought.. the flirtini was absolutley awful. it was basically rubbing alcohol with some red food coloring. it was supposed to be raspberry smirnoff with pineappple juice and cranberry... akes me wonder if the bartender read the same description of the drink as we did... because it was awful. I ended up gulping mine down and chasing it with water.. then i got a long island which was spot on. we also got the fried pickles and shoestring onions, aside from being a little greasy, both were pretty good. It as a little odd to get the onions with honeymustard... but the spicy ranch that came with the pickles was awesome. service was pretty good for them being beyond slammed, i think anyone who was able to get out as at the bar that night. we will def come back next time we are in town and the conditions are a little more favorable. the food that was coming out was looking pretty tasty... love to give it a 2nd try.

The dig! I love the.dig they have good bar food. They have good drinks just like any other bar in town. Maybe a little bit pricey, but I dont eat out if I cant afford to. If youre looking for a good time with nice wait staff and decent bar food, and you are on daniel island, come to this place.

Got kicked out of a Daniel Island Grille because I am hard of hearing and my friends were too loud. So I am that guy and believe it or not they told me three times.

I think the food is great here. The outdoor patio and bar are very cozy and well heated during the cool winter months. There's also additional seating out front whether you choose to sit at hot top tables or the nice u-shaped couch. Cornhole is also very popular at the bar.

It used to be called Daniel Island Bar and Grille, but I guess they're trying to be classy, so now its only called Daniel Island Grille, the DIG. Food here is pretty good. I had the Steve Spurrier Pita, and it was ok. It was curry, which was decent, but was a bit of a strange combo to put in a pita pouch. I wouldn't recommend it. What I would recommend, however, is the Chicken Nachos. Absolutely delicious and enormous. Easily the best dish there. I ordered it as an appetizer every time.

I always dread coming here after work. The food isn't bad but there's something about the atmosphere that I just can't stand...maybe the noise level, the layout, the plastic cups they serve beer in outside? or maybe all of the above and some.

Okay, so based on my one, brief encounter with Daniel Island Grille, I can't pen a full review of this place. But I was recently in Charleston on business and staying near the airport where, after returning to my hotel around 9:30pm, I was informed that, "Oh there's really no food around here this late." Shite. I was starving, so I drove back to the one place I knew. I'd just been shooting some portraits on Daniel Island, so I drove there and found Daniel Island Grille - a shiny beacon of gustatory hope. Anyway, to make a long story short, my young server, Nate, was fantastic and deserves a major shout-out. He was able to point me in the direction of a great organic Chardonnay (totally unexpected here) and was extremely attentive despite the fact that I was his last guest and I'm sure he wanted to go home. Also, the blueberry cheesecake was out of this world. It could've been the frozen and boxed variety for all I know, but I'm still telling people about it :)

Good place for a quick drink. Steer clear on Fridays after 6ish if you don't want to have to listen to terrible music. They have these awful musicians come in and play the same awful Dave Matthews band covers with bongos so loud you can't hear anyone, even yourself talking.

Daniel Island Grill is always a welcoming place. Try the Quesadillas. Great place to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful weather of the South. You are bound to meet someone that comes from your hometown at the DIG

the fact that this place is walking distance from my house attracted me initially. the food that i've had there so far is 'ok' but not fantastic. cheese fries were soggy, chocolate cake was a bit dry. the drinks were good but i'd say it's hard to mess up drinks anyway. the service if you're inside is fine - if you're outside and it's busy - you may be waiting a while. the place on a weekday and even into the early evening hours has a tendency to be overrun by families with small children. definitely not a plus for me. when i go to a bar/pub, i don't feel like being surrounded by kids, but that's just me. obviously the local parents love it because they can bring their kids and basically let them run all over the place barely watched. if you're looking for a more grown-up place, save this for much later in the evening when the parents have put their kiddies to bed. during the day on weekends, don't expect to be able to actually hear one of the games on TV because the parents and kids are just too loud for that. i haven't eaten anything there (yet) that i would consider my "favorite"...

  • Jason K.

I used to live across the street from here. It would have been very convenient to make this my local hang out spot but didn't have the best impression of the place the handful of times I went. Food: Okay. Typical Bar Food. Nothing special. Service: Terrible on weekend nights when busy. There were a couple of occasions when I came here on a Friday or Saturday night that the service was awful. They had one server working the entire outdoor patio area on a busy night. It took at times 30 minutes to get our drinks. It definitely wasn't her fault, but a poor job by management of staffing. It's also a little strange that they have little kids sitting near the bar area at 11pm or Midnight on a Friday or Saturday in the summer. I guess it's supposed to be a "family" spot, but little kids shouldn't be out at a bar at midnight.

I came back into town a few weeks ago and met some friends here for food and drinks. (I used to work on the island and we all met up after work). I am big fan of sports bars in general (favorite is KSG) and so was excited there was one on the DI. The drinks and bar staff were great! However, the food was only so-so. I had the chicken quesadilla which was not a fan of. I'll go there for happy hour but will stick with King Street Bar and Grill if I'm eating.

Don't go to DIG as its known for the food! Its awful on a good day. Go for the drinks, people and outdoor patio. When you get hungry, try one of the islands other restaurants.

Even though Daniel Island is not that far from us we haven't ventured there since we've moved here this summer. I have heard good things about The Daniel Island Grille so off we went for a quick lunch. To me, the name is a little deceiving because I thought it would be more upscale than it was. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's a full on sports bar, through and through. Where else can you find a foosball table on the outside patio? Walking in we were immediately and very warmly greeted. We chose to sit at the bar in front of a bank of TV's, just a few of the 10 that adorn the place. Our bartender (who never told us his name), quickly approached us. It's a shame that he didn't tell us his name as I would have liked to recognize him in this blog for his excellent service. In addition to a very large pub-food-like menu our bartender explained that they also offer daily specials (ambitious, I thought), which seemed pretty interesting. Reading the menu itself is worth the trip to the restaurant. Embedded in the menu copy are funny tidbits about athletes - past and present. Being a Bills fan (yes, it's sad, but true), I spotted a Jim Kelly Buffalo Chicken Salad. Within the description they had somehow woven a zing about Scott Norwood (Nor-wide as he was known in Buffalo after he kicked the winning Super Bowl field goal wide). Very clever. Many other athletes had the similar zings. I thought it was very creative and it made me really read the menu items closely versus skimming them. But on to our lunch. We ordered a Reuben (one of the day's specials), and a Diamondback Dog Duo. They have a long list of hot dog toppings and these had jalapenos, black beans, salsa and sour cream (sour cream was missing, though). When they were delivered they looked like a nacho dog. Very unique. But alas, all the chatting with the bartender and the humorous menu could not take away the fact that with 15 customers in the restaurant the food was taking 4-ever. Way too long. No, seriously. I was happy to see that when the food was delivered everything looked great and the portions are huge. The French fries that accompanied the items were bar-none, the best we've had since moving here. Hot, hot, hot and almost stood at attention on the plate. But (add heavy sigh here), the rest was "not so much". Although the hot dogs tasted great, they were tepid at best. My sandwich was heaping with sauerkraut and corned beef, but it was not that warm. The bottom of the sandwich was very soggy (sat in the window perhaps?). To the restaurant's credit the bartender quickly asked how things were. And, to go one better, I was very surprised that the manager came up to us to see how our lunch was. Why not tell him, you ask? Good question. We were in somewhat of a hurry and could easily eat what we were served, but it took the experience from something that could have been very, very good to just OK. I still say that if it's going to take awhile to get food out of the kitchen whether it be a high end restaurant (see Husk's review), or a Sports Bar, then it should be hot. If it's not, then don't send it, we'd rather wait. It would appear that this would be a fun bar to watch a football game, or any sporting event, but sadly as a Bills fan, the season's pretty much over.

My wife and I have been going there for 3 yr's. Generally after a boat ride the group I am with always ends up at DIG. All previous experiences were very good regarding food quality, service and value. Today was different. I ordered a particular french fry (shoe string) and received regular cut fries. After delivery I asked the waitress about it and she said "oh, we changed that". Really. If so, then why didn't she tell me when I order it. I ordered the chicken curry without the pita bread and for the tomato slices to be placed on the side. The tomato slices were not delivered to the table when she delivered the chicken curry. I asked her about the tomatoes and she left the table to go get them. She didn't say anything. EIther she failed to communicate with the kitchen my request about the tomatoes or the kitchen failed to do what they were requested. Either way, the waitress was expected to make certain the order was correctly delivered. Her attention to detail was very poor. The biggest issue was with the bar. We sat at a table across the bar and both my wife and I had a complete view of the bartenders and customers at the full bar. Both bar tenders were taking shots with the customers. On one occasion we saw a bartender simply moving over to the side and took his own private shot. Do the owners know about this behavior and cost they are incurring? We saw a customer at the bar move from one end of the bar where she was sitting to the other end of the bar when she stood. Then all of the sudden, a bartender handed her a full bottle of something, she took the bottle, but it inside her jacket and quickly walked away from the bar. Do the owners know what their bartenders are doing????

Updated: 3/19/11 We came in last night to meet coworkers for happy hour and the service and food timing has definitely improved, despite it being SUPER crowded. The first time we went, it was empty and took like an hour to get our lunch. Go figure! Previous Review: Would love to make this my local hangout! Except the first and only time I've visited was on New Year's Day, the place was empty but the service took as long as if the place was overflowing with people. The waitress was nice, the food good, but SLOW!! Please hurry it up because I would love to visit again (it was a fun atmosphere).

Okay... it's been far too long since I wrote the original two reviews so I decided to give DIG another chance and am so glad I did. I have had multiple friends and family members tell me that they've had a good experience at DIG so I decided to go today for lunch with my folks. We all enjoyed our meals. Funny enough, we all got the steak sandwich! It was a generous portion, well executed, and overall good value for the money. We had fries and slaw and both were good as well. I'll definitely come back to try something else on the menu and will continue to come for happy hour. I'm happy to see they've stepped up their game and are providing a good option for DI residents! Oh, one more thing, the manager on duty checked in with us and asked how everything was. Nice touch. Service was great as well. :)

Wewt! Hey Hey! A pleasant surprise for a sports bar and grill. I had the big burger and it was cooked perfectly. Exactly as I ordered it. It was hot, and juicy. The fries aren't "home-made" but they were served hot. Others had the chicken wrap, which had nice fresh ingredients. The chili was above average. The tomato bisque soup was rich and creamy. Mom had a salad that had cranberries, blue cheese, and pecans. It was scrumptious! Stop in and give it a try if your local OR passing thru.

Food is okay but way over priced. They need better drink specials too.

Terrible food and service. The bar tender is very rude. I will never go back there again. Don't know how the food is.
